What is the Read To The World Project?
The Read To The World Project is the flagship literacy and local literature initiative of Zambian ARTS Publishing House. The project aims to expand access to quality books, support local authors, and strengthen Zambia’s reading and publishing culture by placing 100,000 book copies into the hands of readers by December 2030.
When was the project launched?
The project was officially launched in June 2026 as a long-term literacy initiative focused on increasing access to books and creating opportunities for authors and readers.
Why was this project created?
The project was created to address two key challenges: limited access to quality reading materials in many communities and the barriers many authors face in publishing and reaching readers.
Read To The World brings these two needs together by supporting writers while ensuring more books reach schools, communities, institutions, and individual readers.
What does the 100,000 book target mean?
The goal is to place 100,000 individual book copies into the hands of readers by December 2030. This includes printed books and eBooks distributed through approved project channels.
Are you counting book titles or individual copies?
The project counts individual copies distributed, not the number of titles. For example, distributing 1,000 copies of one book contributes 1,000 copies toward the target.
Does the target include eBooks?
Yes. Both printed books and eBooks distributed through approved channels contribute toward the 100,000-book target.
AUTHORS & PUBLISHING
How can authors benefit from the Read To The World Project?
Authors can benefit through publishing support opportunities, increased visibility, and potential inclusion of their books in distribution initiatives that connect their work with more readers.
What is the Project Publishing Sponsorship Programme?
The Project Publishing Sponsorship Programme provides eligible authors with support towards publishing selected manuscripts. Successful applicants may receive up to 50% sponsorship on selected publishing packages, depending on project guidelines and available resources.
Will all books be published by Zambian ARTS Publishing House?
No. While many books will come through Zambian ARTS Publishing House’s publishing programmes, the project also supports the wider literary ecosystem by acquiring and distributing quality books from Zambian authors, publishers, and other approved sources.
How does purchasing books support Zambian writers?
When the project purchases books written by Zambian authors, it creates demand for local literature. This supports authors, publishers, bookstores, and the wider creative industry while helping readers access locally relevant stories.
