Building a Nation of Readers, One Book at a Time

The Read To The World Project exists to strengthen literacy, inspire a lifelong culture of reading, and expand equitable access to quality learning resources across Zambia.

By December 2030, we aim to provide access to 100,000 book copies while empowering children, young people, and communities with the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities that reading creates. Every book distributed is a step towards improving literacy, encouraging lifelong learning, and creating lasting educational and social impact.

We believe books are more than printed pages, they are powerful tools for learning, imagination, critical thinking, creativity, and personal development. Every reader reached is an opportunity to build a stronger, more informed, and more empowered society.

Why 100,000 Books?

Across Zambia, many schools, libraries, and communities continue to experience limited access to quality reading materials. At the same time, many children and young people are growing up without regular opportunities to develop strong reading habits or engage with books that reflect their own experiences and culture.

Our commitment to providing access to 100,000 book copies represents far more than a numerical target. It represents an investment in people, communities, and the future of Zambia.

Our 2030 Vision

By December 2030, we aim to:

• Provide access to 100,000 quality book copies through sustainable distribution and digital access.

• Reach thousands of children and young people with literacy and reading opportunities.

• Strengthen reading culture within schools, libraries, homes, and communities.

• Increase access to affordable, culturally relevant, and locally authored books.

• Support and promote Zambian and African authors whose stories educate, inspire, and preserve our cultural heritage.

• Build lasting partnerships with government institutions, development partners, businesses, schools, libraries, and community organisations that share our commitment to literacy.

Measuring Our Progress

Success will be measured not only by the number of books distributed, but by the positive changes those books help create.

The Read To The World Project will monitor and evaluate progress through indicators such as:

Access to Learning Resources

• Number of book copies distributed.

• Number of eBooks accessed.

• Number of schools, libraries, and community learning spaces reached.

• Number of underserved communities served.

Literacy & Reading Culture

• Number of children and young people reached.

• Number of active reading clubs established or supported.

• Participation in literacy events and reading initiatives.

• Improvements in reading engagement and reading habits among participants.

Author & Publishing Development

• Number of Zambian authors supported.

• Number of books published through the Project Publishing Sponsorship Programme.

• Number of locally authored books distributed and promoted.

Partnerships & Community Engagement

• Strategic partnerships established.

• Volunteers and community members engaged.

• Resources mobilised to support literacy initiatives.

• Community and stakeholder feedback on project outcomes.

Annual monitoring and impact reporting will help ensure that the project continues to learn, improve, and deliver meaningful educational and social impact.
