There is a moment we all recognise.
It comes just before you speak up in a room, apply for an opportunity, introduce yourself to someone new, ask for what you want, or take a step towards something you have been afraid to pursue.

Your heart races. Your mind starts giving you reasons to wait. Maybe tomorrow will be better. Maybe you are not ready. Maybe someone else is more qualified.
According to Zambian author, youth mentor and confidence strategist Roden Chiwaya, that moment can be the difference between staying where you are and taking your next step.
It is the idea at the heart of his new book, 2 Minutes of Mad Confidence, published by Zambian ARTS Publishing House.
What Is 2 Minutes of Mad Confidence About?
At its core, the book explores a simple but powerful idea: the distance between doubt and action can sometimes be just two minutes.

Roden describes this short window as the point where we either allow hesitation to take over or decide to act despite our fear.
The book does not promise a life without fear, uncertainty or self-doubt. Instead, it encourages readers to develop the courage to move forward even when those feelings are present.
The inspiration came partly from an experience in Roden’s own life.
While carrying the only printed copy of his first manuscript, he found himself sitting in a restaurant in Solwezi, trying to gather the courage to show the book to a stranger.
The internal battle lasted less than two minutes.
He eventually approached the person, and that decision resulted in his first book sale.
For Roden, the experience became a lesson in how quickly action can change the direction of a situation. What began as hesitation became momentum.
That lesson eventually grew into 2 Minutes of Mad Confidence.
More Than Motivation
The book is divided into five parts and seventeen chapters, covering different aspects of confidence, personal growth, leadership and taking action.

Readers will explore topics including:
- Overcoming self-doubt and developing a stronger mindset
- Using body language and positive affirmations to strengthen confidence
- Speaking with greater authority and presence
- Understanding the Youth Cheat Code and turning the experience of being young and underestimated into an advantage
- Navigating academic pressure and challenges
- Developing confidence as a leader
- Taking calculated risks and making better decisions
- Building self-worth
- Maintaining momentum when motivation begins to fade
One of the book’s strongest features is its focus on action.

Each chapter concludes with a reflection question and a short two-minute action. The goal is not simply to finish a chapter feeling inspired. It is to finish with something practical you can actually do.
Why Read 2 Minutes of Mad Confidence?
It is practical
The book combines ideas with exercises, drills and simple practices that readers can apply immediately.
It is honest
Confidence is not presented as the absence of fear. Instead, the book explores how to keep moving even when fear and uncertainty are still present.
It comes from experience
Roden’s lessons are shaped by his own experiences working in the mining sector, studying law through distance learning and building a small printing business.
It is accessible
The chapters are designed to be easy to read and return to whenever you need a reminder to take action.

Rather than simply telling readers to “believe in yourself”, 2 Minutes of Mad Confidence presents confidence as something that can be developed through repeated choices and deliberate action.
That distinction matters.
Motivation can come and go. Confidence built through action can become a habit.
