The Read To The World Project, an initiative by Zambian ARTS Publishing House, is pleased to welcome Deborah Kajoba as its Community Engagement and Literacy Outreach Partner. A physiotherapist, fitness trainer and facilitator, Deborah brings experience in health, education, administration and community-focused initiatives to the project’s mission of expanding access to reading materials.
Her partnership strengthens the project’s capacity to engage directly with communities through physical activities, including events, library engagements, orphanage visits and other literacy outreach initiatives. Her experience working with people in different professional and community settings offers a valuable foundation for supporting activities that bring reading materials closer to those who need them.
A Multidisciplinary Professional Committed to Well-being and Community Development
Deborah Kajoba is a physiotherapist, fitness trainer, facilitator and administrative professional whose experience spans healthcare, education, sports, fitness and community engagement. Through these roles, she has contributed to health and wellness, supported administrative operations and participated in initiatives focused on personal development and community well-being.
Her professional experience includes working with ZANACO Football Club, serving as an Assistant Administrator at Crowned Eagles School and volunteering as a physiotherapist at Kitwe Central Hospital. She has also worked as a facilitator with Copper Rose Zambia under the Going Beyond Project.
Deborah currently serves as a Fitness Trainer at Raven, associated with Power Dynamos FC and the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC). Her work across these different settings reflects a professional background built around working with people, supporting development and contributing to activities that promote well-being.
These experiences provide a strong foundation for her involvement in the Read To The World Project, where community participation, collaboration and practical engagement are important to advancing the project’s literacy objectives.
Supporting Literacy Through Community Engagement
The Read To The World Project seeks to make reading materials more accessible by working with authors, publishers, schools, libraries, organisations, businesses and individuals. Achieving this mission requires more than making books available. It also involves reaching communities, building relationships and creating opportunities for people to engage with reading.
As Community Engagement and Literacy Outreach Partner, Deborah will support the project’s physical activities, including public events, visits to orphanages, library engagements and other community-based initiatives. Her role will help strengthen the connection between the project’s broader literacy goals and the communities it seeks to serve.
Community outreach provides opportunities to introduce readers to books, encourage participation in reading activities and connect with institutions that can benefit from improved access to reading materials. It also helps build relationships with people and organisations that may wish to support the project’s work.
Expanding access to reading requires people who are willing to engage with communities and help turn a shared vision into practical action.
Deborah’s involvement reflects the importance of hands-on participation in literacy initiatives. Through community engagement, the project can continue exploring opportunities to reach more readers, establish meaningful partnerships and support a stronger reading culture.
Bringing Different Professional Experiences Together
Literacy and community development intersect with many aspects of everyday life, including education, health, personal growth and access to information. Deborah’s background across healthcare, fitness, facilitation and administration brings a range of experiences to her role in the project.
Her experience as a physiotherapist and fitness trainer centres on working with people and supporting their well-being. Her work in education and administration has exposed her to environments where organisation, communication and collaboration are important. Meanwhile, her facilitation experience provides a foundation for engaging with people and supporting activities involving different groups.
Although the Read To The World Project focuses on access to reading materials and the promotion of literacy, its activities depend on collaboration across professional fields. Partners with different experiences can contribute practical skills, community connections and time to help move the initiative forward.
Deborah’s partnership brings her professional experience into a shared effort to promote reading and make books more accessible to children, young people and underserved communities.
Working Towards 100,000 Books by 2030
The Read To The World Project aims to distribute 100,000 book copies by December 2030, through both printed books and e-books. The initiative seeks to expand access to reading materials and encourage a stronger reading culture among children, young people and underserved communities.
Reaching this target requires collaboration among authors, publishers, schools, libraries, businesses, sponsors, organisations and individuals who recognise the value of literacy. It also requires practical efforts to connect reading materials with the people and communities who can benefit from them.
Through community activities and outreach, the project aims to create more opportunities to engage potential beneficiaries, identify community needs and strengthen relationships with organisations interested in supporting literacy.
Deborah’s role will contribute to this collective effort by supporting the project’s physical activities and community-facing initiatives. Her involvement forms part of the wider collaboration needed to turn the project’s long-term vision into meaningful action.
